Sarah Anne Johnson was born in Winnipeg in 1976. She began art studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York (1995–1997), before obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Art degree at the University of Manitoba (1998–2002), followed by a Master of Arts degree at the Yale School of Art (2002–2004). In 2009 she was the recipient of the inaugural Grange Prize, and in 2011 she was shortlisted for the prestigious Sobey Award. She has participated in over 30 group exhibitions and her work is represented in numerous collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Sarah Anne Johnson lives and works in Winnipeg. She is represented in New York by the Julie Saul Gallery and in Toronto by the Stephen Bulger Gallery.
